THE GOODNESS OF STANDARD GAUGE RAILWAY TO MOMBASA ECONOMY

Despite the many problems that the standard gauge railway has brought to Mombasa economy that is the closure of many business like that one of offering bus services has reduced in number and even people have lost their jobs due to this. for example the truck drivers who transport cargos to Narobi and other places. We can now forget about this and try to see the advantages that it has brought to Mombasa economy.
The standard gauge railway has provided a fast , efficient and reliable mode of transportation, the standard gauge railway cargo trains have helped in decongesting the port of Mombasa by ensuring goods that arrive in the port are moved to the places where they are needed without delay hence leaving a space for the upcoming ones .

Standard gauge railway has reduced the cost of transportation of cargo from Mombasa to the other places. According to the Kenya railway corporation it is costing sh 50,000 to transport a container compared to the road transportation which is costing 90,000 for transportation of the same from Mombasa to Narobi.
The facility have also enabled the passengers to enjoy a faster and a cheaper journey compared to eight hour bus transport from Mombasa to Narobi. This has helped to reduce the wear and tear on highways there by reducing roads maintenance cost. It have also reduced the number of accidents that keeps on happening. This is because it have reduced the number of tracks hence making Mombasa roads safer for human trafficking.

In addition to that the standard gauge railway have also created job opportunities to Young men who live around Mombasa county. Example it have employed security personnel who check you before you enter to the train, those who sell snacks and drinks inside the train, those who work on the booking office and so many others. It have also ensured that there is reduction of air pollution through reduction of carbon emotions.
